Tristan made call after call from the hallway, poking his head in to check on Elliana a few times. The last time, Daisy was fast asleep in the chair next to her, holding his daughter’s hand in hers.

He was terrified. Absolutely more scared than he’d ever been in his life. The biggest financial risks he’d taken, even early in his career, didn’t come close to giving him the type of fear he had right now.

His daughter had to live.

He knew how bad this was. His own aunt had died of sepsis in the hospital after a surgery on her hip. He never wanted to hear that word again, especially not as it related to his own child.

Guilt wracked his body as he thought about all the missed time with her. There were so many times she wanted him to read her a second book or watch a silly movie with her, and he’d made excuses and had Tatiana do those things with her.

What must his daughter think of him inside her small, precious little brain? Was she disappointed in him? Did she wish she had a different father who would spend more time with her? Did she know how much he loved her?

The only thing keeping him remotely calm was Daisy. They’d gone to bed so angry at each other, yet she’d remained his rock through the whole ordeal. If he had to do this alone… well, he couldn’t have.

After making multiple calls to friends in the medical industry back in Atlanta, Tristan finally felt confident enough to stay in January Cove. Most of them said the hospital should be completely adept at handling this sort of situation, but one of his friends recommended a pediatrician in Savannah that might be willing to travel to the hospital to do a consultation. Tristan had found, given his immense financial assets, pretty much anyone would do anything for the right amount. And he was willing to spare no expense when it came to his daughter.

He walked back into the room to find Daisy asleep in the chair, still holding his daughter’s hand. He looked at her and wondered who she really was. Where had she really come from? Why was she so reluctant to talk about her past?

But more importantly, why hadn't some lucky guy snatched her up already?
